Notes: Rose lived most of her early life with her grandparents and remembered being awakened each morning at 4:00 AM to feed the chickens. She told her children she usually did not wake up good until she had finished this job. Life was hard for them in Texas.

Back in Virginia after he husband Kent became disabled, Rose worked at various jobs, among them: For the WPA, a sewing room upstairs in one of Mr. Gardner's buildings in Shawsville, Virginia, S.G. Wimmer's Canning Factory in Christiansburg, Overall Factory in Christiansburg, Sam Moore Chairs in Christiansburg, and then the Powder Plant (RAAP) near Radford, Virginia.

Nellie Boone Argabright thinks this line of Carden's originally came from England and settled in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico.
